Confidentiality

REPORTING A SITUATION IS CONFIDENTIAL and can be done any time, day or night. Professionals are available at all times to ensure the protection of children. If the situation is urgent, they can intervene immediately to ensure the child’s safety through various services and resources outside the family.

If you are a professional (health and social services, education, or other) and you know a child who is a victim of one of these situations, you are obligated, under the Youth Protection Act, to immediately inform the Director of Youth Protection.

How situations reported are processed

  1. The social workers at the Service de réception et de traitement des signalements receive and process all situations reported by the general population and professionals in Lanaudière, in accordance with the Youth Protection Act.
  2. The team reviews the situation with the person who reported it or makes additional verifications with the school, the child’s environment, or the police.
  3. The information gathered is used to decide whether to accept the situation reported and determine if the child’s security or development could be in danger.

Social emergency services are an extension of the Service de réception et de traitement des signalements outside regular hours. The services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to guarantee a quick response and a single gateway.

Not all situations reported are accepted. If this is the case, the Service de réception et de traitement des signalements and emergency social services can refer the child and/or the parents to other services offered by partners or community organizations in the Lanaudière region.

These services also offer consultation and information to the general population and our partners.
